We had a wonderful visit to Venice in July of 2015 prior to our 14-day cruise to Croatia, Greece and Turkey (Celebrity Constellation, July 2015). Selecting the Hotel Arlecchino as our pre-cruise hotel turned out to be an excellent choice.
From the outset of planning our trip to Venice, I realized that getting from the airport to a hotel could be a frustrating and expensive endevour. With that in mind, I tried to plan our transfer from Marco Polo Airport (VCE) to our hotel to be as simple and economical as possible. An invaluable resource for planning our trip was Venice for Visitors, especially the information it provided on “How to pick the right hotel location in Venice”. After some research, a visit to TripAdvisor and a tip from a friend, I set my sights on Hotel Arlecchino located in the Santa Croce neighborhood.
Hotel Arlecchino proved to be an excellent choice for a pre-cruise hotel in Venice because of its proximity to Piazzale Roma and the People Mover. Having to wheel our luggage over only one bridge, sealed the deal. Piazzale Roma is Venice’s open-air bus terminal. The Venice People Mover is the public transit service that links Piazzale Roma and the Stazione Marittima Cruise Terminals.
For a simple and economical transfer from Marco Polo Airport into Venice we chose to take the ATVO “Venezia Express” bus. Because we had chosen to stay overnight in Venice before our cruise, time was not an issue. North America to Europe flights arrive in Venice early in the morning and our hotel check-in time was not until well into the afternoon. The “Venezia Express” shuttle bus travels from Marco Polo Airport to Piazzale Roma. A one-way ticket costs about € 8,00 per person† There is lots of room under the bus for luggage.
Upon arriving at Piazzale Roma, the Hotel Arlecchino is only a short walk away. Using the trees by the canal as a point of reference, one must walk toward the trees and the water. When you reach the canal, turn right and follow the sidewalk along the canal. As you walk, you will see the Tre Ponti (three bridges) just up ahead. At this point stay by the main canal, and cross over the bridge. When you are on the bridge you should be able to see the Hotel Arlecchino sign and easily find the main entrance to the hotel.
On embarkation day, after a great stay at the Hotel Arlecchino, it was a quick walk up and over only one bridge to the Venice People Mover which is located across the Piazzale Roma. A ticket for the <3 minute trip to the Stazione Marittima Cruise Terminals costs about €1,50†. The People Mover is an elevated shuttle train much like those at major international airports.
For those looking for a hotel for an overnight stay before a cruise out of Venice, the Hotel Arlecchino is an excellent choice.
“We stayed here ( Hotel Arlecchino) prior to our cruise and found this to be an excellent choice of hotel. First of all, the hotel was so easy to locate from the Piazzale Roma after we took the airport shuttle. One simply has to orient themselves toward the trees and canal at the end of the bus terminal and look right to see the hotel sign. Up and over 1 bridge and you have arrived.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the reception staff and pleased to find that our room was ready even before the posted check in time. We were very pleased with our triple room which overlooked the canal out in front of the hotel. We had 2 large windows with beautiful window boxes and a picture-perfect view up and down the canal.
Breakfast consisted a wide variety of foods and there was something for everyone.
It is clear that the staff at the hotel are very used to having visiting cruise passengers and they gladly stored our luggage while we did some more sightseeing during the morning before we boarded the ship. The level of service by the reception staff was outstanding throughout our stay.
When it was time to head to the ship it was a short walk to the People Mover that transported us over to the Port.
We had a great stay at this hotel. We would recommend it to anyone staying in Venice as it is convenient to all modes of transportation.
For those looking for a hotel for an overnight stay before a cruise, this hotel is a great choice.”
